Passing of Past Fire Chief/President William "Bill" Hearn

The Officers and Members of the South Bowers Volunteer Fire Department send our prayers and condolences to our brothers and sisters of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department Station 81 as they mourn the loss of 59 year member, Past Fire Chief and Past President William "Bill" Hearn, Chief Hearn served the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department for 59 years joining on May 27, 1963 serving as President, Board of Director, Trustee, Ambulance Captain, Assistant Fire Chief and Fire Chief. Chief Hearn was awarded the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department Firemen of the Year Award in 1995 and Sussex County Firemen of the Year in 2003. The Officers and Members of the South Bowers Volunteer Fire Department will keep the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department and Hearn Family in our thoughts and prayers as they get their this difficult time.

The Officers and members of the South Bowers Fire Department join our brothers and sisters of the Lewes Fire Department as they mourn the passing of active auxiliary member Mike Dittmann who served the LFD for 7 years assisting the Department with many functions including meeting night dinners and fire prevention events. Mike was a friend to many and displayed kindness anywhere he was he will certainly be missed by all that knew him and we are all better people for having known him. The Officers and Members of the South Bowers Volunteer Fire Department will keep the Dittmann Family and our brothers and sisters of the Lewes Fire Department in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time

Engine Standby @ Dover Air Force Base Station 58

At 03:41 on Wednesday March 16, 2022 Station 57 volunteers were alerted for an Engine Standby at Dover Air Force Base Station 58 while they assisted Dover Fire Department on a Commercial Structure Fire in downtown Dover, Engine 57 made the response and stood by until cleared by Station 58 personnel

For the last 6 years Fire Chief Bobby Johnson has served as Chief of the Department and has expanded our departments apparatus fleet and water rescue swimmer personnel. Under Chief Johnson the department purchased a Marine Response Unit (MRU 57), Deuce 57, Command Unit, Hazmat Trailer and also several water rescue swimmers were put in service. Chief Johnson has served the South Bowers Fire Department for the last 16 years joining as a junior member and rising through the ranks as Fire Recorder, Captain, Assistant Fire Chief and eventually being elected Fire Chief in 2016. Chief Johnson also expanded the departments Junior Member program and also served as President of the Kent County Fire Chiefs Association on top of his time as Chief of the Department. We thank you Chief Johnson for your service as Fire Chief and we are happy that you stayed in and will serve as our Deputy Chief for the 2022 Officer Year

New Fire Chief Sworn In

At last nights company meeting Life Member and Past President Joey Yonker was sworn in as the New Fire Chief of the South Bowers Volunteer Fire Department, Chief Yonker has proudly served the South Bowers Fire Department for the last 37 years joining in 1984 as a junior member and quickly rising through the ranks such as Captain, 1st Assistant Fire Chief, Deputy Fire Chief and most recently President before switching to Fire Chief. Aside from his accomplishments in the Fire Service, Chief Yonker proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard before retiring as a Coast Chief after 23.5 years of service. We wish Chief Yonker the best of luck as he serves his first year at the helm as Fire Chief of the South Bowers Volunteer Fire Department
